January 2018 Wrap-Up: ALL THE AUDIOBOOKS

14th February 2018 By Julianne Leave a Comment

(Audio)Books mentioned:

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, by Gail Honeyman

I heard so much buzz about this book and the hype was totally deserved. Heartwarming but not sickly, sad but not gloomy, Eleanor Oliphant is completely perfect, as the narrator, Cathleen McCarron, is for the book.

How to Be a Bawse, by Lilly Singh

Lilly Singh’s guide to life and world domination will be a inspiring and useful read for fans and young people. Those who have read personal development books before may not find it particularly original, but Lilly is an engaging, enthusiastic narrator.

Someday, Someday, Maybe, by Lauren Graham

I was not expecting to enjoy this anywhere as much as I did! I was expecting it to be fun, and it was, but it’s not fluffy and actually touches on some serious points about ambition and determination and self-confidence. I forgot to mention this in the video, but I want to give a content warning for this book for talk about body shape and dieting, it’s a comparatively tiny part of the story but it’s there.

December 2017 Wrap-Up: A Tale of Two Cities, Christmas, and Nimona

2nd February 2018 By Julianne Leave a Comment

Books mentioned:

A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens (via CraftLit)

Several years after DNFing A Tale of Two Cities and falling out of love with podcasts, I rediscovered the love and finished the book! And oh, what love! Such drama. Such silliness. And Madame Defarge.

Christmas at Thompson Hall and Other Christmas Stories, by Anthony Trollope

I started this last Christmas and was excited to finish it, but it was a bit of a disappointment. A shame as it’s such a gorgeous mini hardback!

Nimona, by Noelle Stevenson

The hype is real and well-deserved! Nimona was a delightful story of a villain who finds himself with a new, absurdly powerful sidekick.
